In society, it is not so common to find people who willingly help without asking for anything in return. In fact, the term equivalent exchange has become the standard of society. If one wishes to become rich, simply earn a lot, gain more, acquire and don’t let go, only then will you have the amount you wish for. While this is true, the Bible says otherwise: if you take a look at the book of Proverbs, chapter eleven, verse twenty five, it says “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed” which of course, remains a mystery if you do look at it in a simplistic way. I learned in the Pentecostal churches in Lexington KY that this principle applies to us as well.

Many people often feel loss when giving out something for free but it actually is the other way around in the kingdom of God: if you give something, it will return to you and in fact, by giving, you are actually gaining! This also indicates ones attitude towards wealth: it must be shared as stinginess would bring one to poverty. Generosity will ultimately bring one more wealth – it may not be in terms of financial wellness but it will definitely pay back in terms of one’s spiritual wellness.

It is often reminded in the Pentecostal churches in Lexington KY that a person must not be stingy, but instead be generous in order to gain more. This doesn’t only apply financially: it does always feel nice when you extend a helping hand to a friend who needs it – if you have enough of something, share it.
